This is spot on. Those last few minutes before kick-off are a crucial time when the fans can play their part in building the excitement. Bombarding us with adverts, the pitch-side DJ or some idiot telling us to get behind the team (as if we needed telling) blocks that opportunity. It's as if they don't trust us to sing.

As for complaints about the fans not getting behind the team enough during games... note how that is never mentioned after matches when the side plays with tempo and adventure. There have been some games this season when the atmosphere, as a result, was fantastic.

It's a two-way street... we're there to sing and cheer and we're ready to do so. But the side's tactics definitely play a part when they give us something to sing about.

Absolutely Neil! The PA overshadows all of the singing that does happen and it has no chance to build within the stadium. FIFA needs to quit monetizing the game it is killing it!

Spot On... Suzie and I are so troubled with the country we are living in. For me, it's easy... let's get back to the UK, however Suzie is a Ft. Worth, TX native and all her sisters are here in the US. Not that UK is perfect. Seriously considering, perhaps a move to Colorado and out of the State of Texas. I am still obsessed with my boys AND Ladies of Chelsea. Extremely fortunate to be able to watch every single match, men/women here live. Wonderful stuff! Right Neil, I'll be in touch. Very much enjoy your Joy of Football.

Neil, you are a gem. I couldn't agree more with your post. I once had a supporter in our Austin Blues club come to me and ask me why don't I provide "Song Sheets" to the fans at our pub. I about spit out my beer. I categorically told her that would never happen. Sure enuf, a couple weeks later, she was there handing out to the tables of fans said "Song Sheets". I grabbed one and had a look. First off, they were incorrect. At that point, I just let it be. Her reasoning was how would people learn the words? I politely told her, listen and try to follow along. Didn't see much of her afterwards, but I tell you what, on that day, those sheets just were left on the tables. To your point, fans don't need direction or encouragement. It's there already. My club was built off my enthusiasm and belting out the tunes I remember from the day of my youth at the Bridge. Many joined me over the years and we built a passionate, loud and fun club. I stepped down a couple years back. 14yrs of rarely missing a game took its toll on my liver.. LOL.. I"m kidding, but it was a great deal of work and I had done my time. Suzie and I do head up to the pub now and then and a few of the old skool is there and we join in song and G up the group. I wish stadiums would take your advice, it is the way to get it going. PS.. this CWC Tourny is a disaster IMO. We will see. Hope to see you when we head back over for a match, I'll be sure to reach out. Jens & Suzie Busch, Austin Blues Supporters Club.

Thanks Jens. Way of the world, over-control the people. The ultimate outcome seems to be blind support for maniacs. Never mind political leaders, venture capitalist club owners are as bad. And coaches with philosophies!!! But the addiction lives on. I’m still totally obsessed. It’s just cathartic to be able to air my passions. Look forward to meeting up

Neil
